Ever try to put Coucou Chloe in a field and she or he’ll crawl proper out once more, armoured with a devilish grin. The French-born, London-based artist and producer has concocted a genre-defying sound that avoids straightforward categorisation. A skittish concoction of left-field pop, skeletal hip hop, deconstructed membership music and droning vocals, Chloe’s again catalogue has proved each rave-ready but underscored with darkish, twisted turns.
As co-founder of experimental file label Nuxxe alongside Sega Bodega and Shygirl, the trio has been accountable for producing a few of the most fun music to come back out of the UK lately. On her newest EP, One – self-released in December – Chloe takes on her signature quirks at breakneck pace – whether or not or not it’s bubbly opener “Wizz” which fees ahead with thundering pressure, or the sultry “Zero 5 Stars”.
